My Name is Jo, “Biker.Jo” and I am a motorcycle enthusiast, adventure bike and cruiser rider since 1978. My previous main Job as Pilot has taken me almost around the world. Now, in the age above 60 my Job is riding more intensively motorcycle as part of my retirement. Therefore, I setup my personal project 60 / 6 / 6 – means I will travel in the age of 60 within 6 years through all 6 continents.
I started my project with my old BMW GS 1150, continued with my BMW GS 800 and ride now my BMW GS 1250 HP Adventure. As a motorcycle rider with passion (no car) I ride almost 30-40000 km per year and during all seasons the whole year. For me is every season a riding season. It does not matter for me, to climb a mountain track in Liguria or Marokko up to 2900 m on gravel tracks, to pass some jungle in south east Asia dealing with heavy rain and mud, or to ride during winter, dealing – 15 degrees Celsius, rain and snow. Proper clothes, proper bike, proper awareness paired with some experience assures in my eyes a safe riding at any time of the year and on any terrain.
Pan America Highway
One of my associated projects is to ride the Pan America Highway and associated sidetracks from South America (Ushuaia) up to Deadhorse (Alaska) This project was planned for 2020 but obviously the COV SARS 2 pandemic had jeopardize this attempt. Now I will start another attempt December 2021 to ride all the way up to Deadhorse until June 2022. We talk about 40.000 km on all sort of road and terrain.
I am riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles with the same Passion as I do with my BMWs. HD 48, V-Rod, and Wide Glide are my HDs for cruising and enjoyment, beside I use my BMW for Toursand Adventure Worldwide. HD has presented the HD “Pan America” today and I will receive one of the first deliveries via my friend Manfred Haemmerle, HD Dealer and owner of KM Harleyworld in Staudach (Germany). So, the idea was to go for the new HD Pan America and challenge this new bike on the adventure bike market right from the beginning on.

I have already ordered my HD Pan America and KM Harleyworld supports me, as we run the 1-100.000 km project together. My plan is to challenge the motorcycle after delivery and year 2021 almost 20.000 km while making use of it on all my scheduled tours. The second challenge will be the ride from south to North America on the Pan Americana road using theHD Pan America fur purpose.
I do not know at this stage when I will be able to turn the throttle on my new HD Pan America. This depends on the delivery schedule of Harley Davidson. I hope this will be the case during March or early second quarter 2021 as the official presentation of the bike takes place today. However, via this blog, I will inform you continuously about new developments, will release useful information about riding this incredibly special motorcycle on all terrain as adventure rider and will pair the HD Pan America with one of the main Competitors the BMW GS 1250 HP Adventure. At least, I am not a “PRO” rider, but I am a rider able with all kind of bikes and terrain as demonstrated in the past. As pilot I learned the process of evident and safety-based decision making. The sound of a motorcycle, the power, the personal freedom, the smell of a crossed landscape, to explore with any place of the world, it is part of my DNA like all of you interesting on this blog.
